San Francisco & Big Sur
Other than photographing dramatic landscapes, my favorite subjects to capture is architecture, and specifically bridges. Since early adulthood, I have been captivated by bridges' engineering, construction, and aesthetics, especially the grand suspension bridges. Read More...
Given this, it likely won't come as any surprise that I love visiting San Francisco, and specifically, I love photographing its bridges. So, whenever I have the opportunity, I seek out different vantage points to shoot the Golden Gate Bridge. Though it's probably the most photographed bridge in the world, I still enjoy capturing my own images of the iconic landmark. My favorite locations to shoot the bridge are Fort Scott Field and Spencer Battery.
Though it often plays second fiddle to the Golden Gate, the Bay Bridge is also a spectacular bridge in its own right. In addition to shooting the bridge from the Wharf district, I enjoy getting photos of the bridge and the San Francisco Skyline from Yerba Buena Island - especially at night when the city is lit. Another of my favorite destinations in San Francisco is the Palace of Fine Arts is located in the Marina District. The building itself is a marvel of architecture, with its iconic dome, columns, and ornate decorations, and is surrounded by beautiful gardens and parkland. The Palace of Fine Arts is a historic building and a popular tourist attraction. Built in 1915 for the Panama-Pacific International Exposition, the Palace of Fine Arts was designed to showcase fine arts and cultural achievements worldwide.
If you're a fan of bridges and beautiful landscapes like I am, then The Big Sur in California is a must-visit destination. Located along the Pacific Coast Highway, The Big Sur is a stretch of rugged coastline that offers breathtaking views and some of the most iconic bridges in the state. One of my favorite bridges to photograph in The Big Sur is the Bixby Creek Bridge. With its towering arches and dramatic location above the rocky coastline, it's a photographer's dream. I love the way the light plays across the bridge's concrete and steel structure, and the way the clouds seem to stretch out for miles behind it. The simple aesthetics of the bridge and the captivating surrounding coastline has garnered the bridge ha cult following. Recently, the bridge has achieved "most instgrammable" status as it has been featured in several films and the area has been overrun with tourists.
Another must-see bridge in The Big Sur is the Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge. This beautiful steel and concrete span was completed in 2013 and replaced an older bridge that had been damaged by erosion. The Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge is a true work of art, with its sleek design and stunning location. But The Big Sur is more than just bridges. The region is home to some of the most breathtaking landscapes in California, with rugged cliffs, hidden coves, and dense forests. Whether you're hiking, driving, or just enjoying the view, there's always something new to discover in The Big Sur. So, if you're a bridge enthusiast like me, or just love beautiful landscapes, make sure to add The Big Sur to your travel bucket list. You won't be disappointed!
