Yosemite National Park
What can I say about Yosemite that hasn't already been said? Even though many consider Yosemite to be the OG of US National Parks, it is, in fact, the 3rd oldest park after Yellowstone and Sequoia (though Sequoia NP is only a week more senior). That said, Yosemite has a stately, grown-up feel to it. Perhaps, its towering granite peaks and ancient giant Sequoias in the Mariposa Grove, some of which are over 3,600 years old, give it a sense of grandeur and timelessness. Read More...
I must admit that our first impression of Yosemite was somewhat muted. This was because we had recently toured through the red rock country of Southern Utah, and our brains needed a bit of time to process the stark contrast between the orange and red-hued formations of the Utah Parks and the granite peaks and green valleys of Yosemite. It didn't take us long. One of the things that makes Yosemite so unique is its diversity. It is a different park when hiking through the mountains than driving through the valley. It's an entirely different experience when you visit during the Summer than when you visit in the Winter.
Our favorite moments in the park included capturing the sunset from the tunnel view vista and watching the golden hour sun illuminate the caps of El Capitan and Half Dome. We also enjoyed exploring Glacier Point, Vernal Falls, and the stunning views of Yosemite Valley, Half Dome, and Yosemite Falls.
Vernal Falls is a stunning waterfall located halfway way between Sentinel Dome and Half Dome in California. The falls drop 317 feet over a granite cliff, creating a spectacular display of power and beauty. The waterfall is fed by the Merced River, which begins its journey high in the Sierra Nevada mountain range and flows through the park, creating several other stunning waterfalls along the way.
One of the best ways to experience Vernal Falls is to hike the Mist Trail, a popular and scenic route that takes you to the top of the falls. The hike is relatively strenuous, but the views are worth the effort. Along the way, you'll pass through a dense forest of conifers and deciduous trees, cross some footbridges over the Merced River, and pass by the smaller Nevada Falls. At the top of Vernal Falls, you can stand on a platform and feel the mist from the falls on your face, or look down from the edge of the cliff and watch the water plummet to the valley below.
With its crystal-clear waters and breathtaking reflections of Half Dome, Cathedral Beach is a truly spectacular sight to behold. The contrast between the smooth granite cliffs and the calm surface of the Merced River creates a mesmerizing visual effect that is unlike anything else in the world. Standing on the shore of Cathedral Beach, surrounded by the natural beauty of Yosemite, is an experience that will stay with you long after your visit to the park.
The views from Yosemite Valley View are stunning, with panoramic vistas of Half Dome and El Capitan that will take your breath away. The sheer size and grandeur of these iconic granite cliffs is genuinely awe-inspiring, and the way they tower over the valley floor is a sight you will never forget. Whether taking in the views from the comfort of your car or enjoying a hike through the valley, the vistas from Yosemite Valley View are some of the most memorable and beloved in the entire park."
Overall, our trip to Yosemite National Park was an unforgettable experience filled with beauty, adventure, and a sense of awe at the world's natural wonders. If you ever have the chance to visit this amazing park, we highly recommend it – it truly is a place like no other.
